4 Ways to Narrow Down Your Countertop Search

Finding the perfect countertop often requires a thorough search. With Contractor Source, we strive to be the simpler, faster, friendlier way to remodel your home.

In this article we’ll go through 4 main ways you can narrow down your search for a countertop. If you’re interested in getting your kitchen or bathroom remodeled, call us today for a complementary, in-home design consultation.

A quick Google search for “countertop materials”, “bathroom countertop materials”, or “kitchen countertop materials” will yield you this (half helpful, half overwhelming) list of many options.

The 3 most common options, however, are granite, quartz, and solid surface. At Contractor Source, we specialize in these, so let’s focus on them for the sake of the article.

The first step in narrowing down your countertop search is identifying where you’ll be putting the countertop. If you plan on remodeling multiple spaces, it’s important to research whether one material can fit the bill in both spaces, or if each space will require a different material.

The second step in this process is choosing the material. There are beautiful, functional, and affordable options within granite, quartz, and solid surfaces. Picking between the three is a decision that needs to be made on the following factors:

  • What’s your price range?
  • What level of durability do you need?
  • Do you need something that requires 0 annual maintenance?
  • What colors are available and do they match your current space?
  • What is your time frame, and do we have slabs in person for you to view?

The third step in narrowing down your search is choosing the color base you want to aim from. This step, though almost purely aesthetic, is usually the hardest. We recommend taking the slab samples we bring during our complimentary, in-home design consultation and holding them up in the space that they’re intended to go. See how they look next to:

  • Appliances
  • Backsplashes
  • Wall colors
  • Wallpaper (if applicable)
  • Window treatments
  • Bathroom drawer hardware, ect.

The fourth and final step in this process is to choose the level of veining, speckle, or color blocks you want in a slab within your chosen color range. If the material and color you selected includes options that have veining of different colors running through them, familiarize yourself with how that might look in your space. Will your space require more than one slab to complete? If so, ask about vein matching options to ensure that the end result is one that you love.
